The Hidden Menopause-Oral Health Link: Innovating for Change
An interesting 2024 study by Delta Dental uncovered a stunning revelation: a staggering 84% of women aged 50 and above remain unaware of the impact of menopause on their oral health.
Hormonal imbalances during menopause lead to a range of oral health symptoms, including receding gumlines, tooth sensitivity, tooth decay, bleeding gums, altered taste, reduced saliva production, and burning tongue.
However, despite 70% of women over 50 encountering oral health symptoms due to menopause, only a small percentage have engaged their dentists about these concerns.
Addressing the menopause oral health-treatment gap presents innovation opportunities in terms of educating around the issue and accelerating companies focused on women's dental health across the lifespan.
